As my time with WhaleSwim Adventures was coming to an end, for our final night we had to find our own accommodation as we had to check out of Hotel Hibiscus and we had a whole day and night to waste in Mo'orea. I was extremely keen to spoil myself with a stay at an overwater bungalow but with a price of about $1600 AUD per night I was starting to lose hope, but thankfully there was another member of the group just as keen and even better, we could go halves in the cost!
There are two types of bungalows to choose from, a garden bungalow and an overwater bungalow. The garden bungalows have a private terrace, plunge pool and views of the gardens and the beach. Overwater bungalows have a glass bottom floor in the living area so you can see the reef and fish below and your own private deck where you are free to enter the shallows of the lagoon and explore as you wish!
The interior of these overwater bungalows are simply gorgeous and the second you open the front door you are overwhelmed with so much admiration! The bathroom has a double vanity with beautiful marble like texture, a bath and shower with a massive head that it almost feels like you are underneath a waterfall! The bed is HUGE and so incredibly cosy you feel like your sinking in fluffy clouds. As mentioned before theres a glass bottom which allows you to see the marine life below and an amazing open space deck where you can jump straight into the water!
FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, IT HAD ALWAYS BEEN MY DREAM TO SPEND JUST ONE NIGHT IN AN OVERWATER BUNGALOW ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND THAT DREAM CAME TRUE AT THE HILTON MOOREA LAGOON RESORT AND SPA!
The resort itself boasts so many amazing facilities including a babysitting service, beauty salon, clothing store, florist, gift shop, recreation desk, convenience store, large pool, rental services (stand up paddle board, snorkelling, kayaks), a fitness centre, tennis court, beach access and four on site restaurants just to name a few things! They can also organise a romantic dinner you will never forget!
I took advantage of the beauty salon and booked myself in for an "After Sun Glow" treatment which is exactly what my body needed after being in the sun all that time with the whales! This treatment includes a restorative Tamanu body wrap followed by aloe vera gel to really cool and calm my skin. While my skin was absorbing the gel I was treated to a soothing scalp massage, oh I can still remember it, I was in absolute heaven!
There is just something about Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa that makes it so dreamy! The hospitality of the staff is incredible, they always have a smile on their face (I guess I would too if I worked there!), the air is so clean and there's palm trees everywhere! I think my most favourite thing about this resort is how close you are to nature. Walking on the boardwalk to your bungalow and seeing all the marine life below like the coral, stingrays and black tip reef sharks and how you can quite literally just help yourself to these crystal blue waters right from your deck whenever you wish!
This place is definitely a luxury, not everybody will get the opportunity to stay here but even if it's just for one night I can't recommend it highly enough! There is so much you can do here whether it be soaking up the sun on the beach, keeping active with water activities, sitting at the bar above water with a cocktail in hand, floating around in the pool (or even better, in the reef!), treating yourself to a spa treatment and pamper using Tahiti's local ingredients or even just lying back in a hammock by the beach and really absorbing all the natural beauty around you and thinking to yourself how grateful you are to have this opportunity!
